After less than stellar start to their three-game Central Division road trip, the Moose Jaw Warriors were able to finish things off with momentum on their side.

The Warriors picked up wins in Calgary and Edmonton – two places that haven't been kind to Moose Jaw in the past – to finish off the road trip with a 6-1-1-1 record on the year.

Saturday's 3-2 win over the Oil Kings was just the second win in Edmonton in the past five seasons for the Warriors.

“We're one goal away from getting another point, if not two, but any time you can get two out of three wins on the road, it's huge,” said assistant captain Dryden Hunt, who had a goal and three points in Saturday's win.

While the top line did all the scoring on Saturday, the Warriors were seeing contributions from throughout the lineup during the road trip, exemplified on Thursday when eight different players scored in their 10-2 win in Calgary.

The ability to roll the lines was a big part of the team's success during the road trip.

“A lot of the young guys have been doing well,” said Hunt. “(Brayden Watts) got his first goal in Calgary and a lot of guys have been stepping up, so it's really fun to be a part of this group right now.”

Hunt has been on a tear so far this season. He's posted five goals and 16 points in nine games with the Warriors after getting traded to Moose Jaw just before the start of the regular season.

“I'm loving my time here, the guys have been great, you can't ask for better linemates than (Nikita Popugaev) and (Brayden Point), Tim (Hunter) is a great coach, (Mark O'Leary) is a great coach and we've got a good thing going here, I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of damage we can do,” said Hunt.

The Warriors will return to action on Wednesday when they welcome in the Swift Current Broncos to Mosaic Place for the first time this season.

McNulty Fitting In with Tribe

Last week was anything but normal for new Warriors defenceman Marc McNulty.

As he prepared to head out on the road with the Kamloops Blazers, McNulty got a call that he'd been traded to the Warriors, meaning he was instead jumping on a plane to join the Tribe in Calgary.

McNulty then posted two assists in his Warriors' debut on Thursday before adding a goal and two points in Edmonton on Saturday to make a strong first impression with his new team.

“The guys have been great, I've felt really welcomed here, so it's been good,” said McNulty.

With the Warriors being on the road, McNulty said that actually helped him get to know his new teammates a bit quicker than he normally would have.

“You're all together – meals, going to the rink and stuff – because if we were in Moose Jaw, I would go to my billet house and I probably wouldn't have seen too many of the guys right away, so it was good to meet all the guys and be around them,” he said.

“When I went to Kamloops last year, I knew quite a few guys on the team, so to come in here it was pretty nerve racking.

“I spent quite a bit of time with (Tim Hunter and Mark O'Leary) before the game on Thursday, just going over all the new stuff, so it was good.”

Joining the Warriors is also a bit of a homecoming for McNulty as he was lived in Moose Jaw until he was 11 years old before moving to Medicine Hat.

“My mom sent me a picture of me in my Warriors' jersey when I was a little kid,” said McNulty. “I grew up going to a ton of games when I was younger, so this is definitely a team that I've wanted to play for since I was a kid.

“It felt pretty special to put on that jersey now. Growing up watching the team, they've had a ton of guys go to the NHL and it's a pretty storied franchise, so I was pretty excited.”

McNulty brings a big body and some offensive skill from the back end to the Warriors' lineup and he's hoping that he can help some of the younger defencemen learn a bit more about the league.

“We've got a lot of young D back there, so whatever I can do to help those guys out during the game, before the game, anything like that, I'll try to do that,” he said.

“I like to be a two-way guy, play hard defensively and chip in on the offence, so just do a little bit of both and be a consistent guy back there.”
