Moose Jaw Warriors Denton Mateychuk and Brayden Yager have been named the East Division finalist for a pair of WHL awards. 

Mateychuk is the finalist for the Bill Hunter Memorial Trophy for the league’s top defenseman. Mateychuk is up against the Victoria Royals’ Gannon Laroque, Kaiden Guhle of the Edmonton Oil Kings and Olen Zellweger of the Everett Silvertips. 

Brayden Yager is up for the Jim Piggot Memorial Trophy for the WHL Rookie of the Year. He’ll be going up against Andrew Cristall of the Kelowna Rockets, the Swift Current Broncos’ Owen Pickering and Kevin Korchinski of the Seattle Thunderbirds. 

Meanwhile, three Warriors were named to WHL East Division all-star teams. 

Mateychuk was named to the East Division’s first-team all-star squad. Forward Jagger Firkus and goaltender Carl Tetachuk were named second-team all-stars.
