Warriors forward Torrin White breaks in on Brandon goalie Corbin Boes on Saturday at Mosaic Place.

The Moose Jaw Warriors are finished with the WHL preseason and now have their sights set firmly on the home opener coming up on Friday night at Mosaic Place.

After going 1-1-1 through their first three preseason games, all against the Swift Current Broncos, the Warriors really turned it on against the Brandon Wheat Kings over the weekend, sweeping their home-and-home series to wrap up the preseason.  The tribe rolled over the Brandon Wheat Kings 7-1 on Friday night at Westman Place and then won 5-3 on Saturday in Moose Jaw.

"That's what we wanted coming into these games is to work things out and keep building towards that regular season game," said Kendall McFaull, the Warriors 20-year-old captain.

"I think we made huge strides.  We're playing a lot tougher, all the guys are buying in, we've had some good weeks of practice, guys are buying into the system and I think that's going to help us a lot.

McFaull says they started to pick the tempo up over the weekend, "That was a lot more up tempo and the high tempo that we wanted and that's something that we're building towards for the regular season opener."

The Warriors scored 12 goals in the two games against the Wheat Kings and McFaull says they're scoring the goals the right way, "We're going to the net.  You see on Point's goal, he was going to the net and AJ's was the same thing.  That's the big thing this year, we're not going to score clean, so we've got to get pucks to the net and have guys driving to the net."

Rookie Brayden Point led the team in scoring during the preseason, picking up three goals and seven points in four games.  Point had two goals in Saturday's win over Brandon.  Andrew Johnson also scored and finished second on the team in scoring with two goals and five points.

The team released 18-year-old goalie Spencer Tremblay prior to Saturday's game against the Wheat Kings, meaning they will go into the season with two 17-year-old netminders in Justin Paulic and Daniel Wapple.  Paulic got the win on Saturday over Brandon and 1-0-1 during the preseason with a 2.40 GAA.

The Warriors open the regular season coming up on Friday against the Swift Current Broncos at Mosaic Place.  The team will raise their 2011-12 East Division Championship banner to the rafters during the pre-game ceremony.  There's still tickets available at the Mosaic Place box office.
