Moose Jaw Warriors goaltender Adam Evanoff is no stranger to the crease.

The Penticton-born netminder is in his third season with the Warriors but last off-season, he had hip surgery and was expected to miss quite some time.

When training camp opened, the Warriors announced that he would likely be out for a long time, but through recovery he was able to come back much quicker that expected, makign his season debut last Friday against the Red Deer Rebels. Evanoff had a mixture of excitement and nerves heading into that game.

“I’d say there was a bit of both,” he said recently. “It was a big day and it felt good to get back in there. I’m happy the Red Deer game went well.”

Evanoff stopped 36 of 38 shots to earn the win in net that night for the Warriors.

He then entered Saturday's game in relief of the since-departed Bailey Brkin, allowing only one goal in over half a game.

“It felt good,” he said. “After the first period in the Red Deer game, I felt like I was right back in it where I left off last season. It felt good to get in there and hoepfully we can come up with two big wins this weekend.”

Evanoff is expected to carry the lion's share of the action between the pipes for the Warriors the rest of the season.

The Warriors had a long week of long practices leading into tonight.

“Looking back at last week and a couple of games before, the first line of (Ryder) Korczak, (Brayden) Tracey and (Owen) Hardy, they’ve been really stepping up for us points-wise,” said forward Jadon Joseph. “We need to get the second line going a little bit. You can’t just have the one line going.”

The Warriors announced this morning that forward Atley Calvert will make his WHL debut Friday. Calvert is playing this season with the midget AAA Warriors and has scored eight goals and eight assists in 13 games.
