The Moose Jaw Warriors came back from Christmas break with a bang at Mosaic Place Wednesday, knocking off the Eastern Conference leading Edmonton Oil Kings 4-3 in a shootout.

Second-year forward Sam Fioretti says they had everything going in the win, "We had a complete team effort and we were extremely happy with our game.  It was nice to get the win out of that."

That statement was echoed by Assistant Coach Mike Vandenberghe, "I thought that we chipped pucks in and didn't give them a whole lot, they're a pretty potent offence and very capable of scoring seven or eight goals at a time, and I thought we did a good job of eliminating their chances."

Moose Jaw got on the board first with Kenton Miller picking up his twelfth of the season with just 1:04 to go in the opening frame.

The score remained that way until Michael St. Croix scored his twentieth lated in the period, followed by Rhett Rachinski's marker which gave the Oil Kings the lead with just 1:02 remaining. But Moose Jaw continued to press and, as a result, Andrew Johnson tied it up 2-2 before the frame was out.

The two teams went back and forth throughout the third period and Brett Lyon gave Moose Jaw a 3-2 lead with just three minutes left in the game. Edmonton, however, responded quickly with Tyler Maxwell getting his twentieth to send the game to overtime.

Moose Jaw had chances in the extra period throwing eight shots on the Edmonton goal, but to no avail.

After Maxwell scored to start the shootout for Edmonton, Warrior netminder Luke Siemens stood tall.  It was Warriors Justin Kirsch, in his first game back from a wrist injury, and Andrew Johnson who scored to send Mosaic Place into a frenzy.

Siemens made 27 saves in picking up his 19th win of the season, while Laurent Brossoit stopped 31-of-35 Warrior shots.

"I thought that overall we had our third guy high and we were coming through the middle. I thought it was two good hockey teams and a very well played hockey game on both sides," added Vandenberghe.

The win extends Moose Jaw's winning streak to four games and moves them within two points of the Oil Kings for top spot in the Eastern Conference.

After the game, the Warriors loaded up the bus and are now making their way to Seattle for their next game Friday night.  It's the first of six games in ten nights for the tribe.
