The Moose Jaw Warriors finished a weekend three-in-three schedule with a 5-1 win over the Kootenay Ice on Sunday at Mosaic Place, improving their record to 34-16-6-2.

Justin Almeida led the Warriors with a goal and four points, while Brayden Tracey and Tristin Langan had a goal and three points each.

Moose Jaw took a 1-0 at 10:26 when Tate Popple created a neutral zone turnover, he moved the puck over to Keenan Taphorn on the right wing and the Yorkton product finished the rush with a hard shot past goaltender Curtis Meger for his 14th goal.

With three and a half minutes left in the frame, the Warriors went to work on the power-play. Moose Jaw moved the puck quickly around the Ice zone, it came to Langan at the left goal line where he made a quick pass to Tracey between the circles where he snapped in his 31st goal to make it 2-0.

Getting to the seven-minute mark of the second period, the Warriors added to their lead. Josh Brook had the puck deep in the Moose Jaw zone and then looked up the ice where he made a hard pass in the neutral zone to Almeida, who connected with Langan streaking through the middle of the ice, the Warriors leading scorer took the pass and drove between the circles where he put a shot over the blocker of Meger, his 45th goal gave Moose Jaw a 3-0 lead.

Moose Jaw's power-play struck again at 9:56 of the third period when Almeida scored his 25th after picking up a loose puck on the left side of the net and jamming it over the goal line.

Kootenay's power-play broke up Brodan Salmond’s shutout at 12:18 with a goal from Owen Pederson, but the Warriors got that goal back with a power-play goal of their own from Popple inside the final minute of regulation.

Salmond finished with 26 saves.

Moose Jaw was 3-for-5 on the power-play and 3-for-4 on the penalty kill.
