Imagine going through some boxes in your closet and finding a 25 to 30-year-old shirt.

And now imagine someone paying a few hundred dollars for that shirt.

That's exactly what's been happening to the Moose Jaw Warriors, who found a cache of vintage jerseys in storage and are selling them on their website.

Some of these jerseys haven't seen the light of day since they were stored all those years ago.

“It’s very possible that some of them have been sitting back there since then,” said Brady Shave with the Warriors. “Great shape. They were all boxed up. Some of them with a little bit of dust on them, but all of them probably looking exactly the same way as they did when they were put into storage.”

Finding these rare game-worn jerseys was a happy accident.

“I’m not sure if anybody actually knew that they were back there,” Shave said. “They just got buried. We came across them and found their jerseys from the mid-80s all the way through to a couple of years ago.”

As of Friday, the Warriors had a #3 from the mid-90s selling alongside Josh Thrower’s jersey from the Cancer fundraiser.

“This is an opportunity, not only for us to make a little bit of money during a pandemic when revenues are few and far between, but I think more importantly this is an opportunity for fans of the Moose Jaw Warriors to buy a piece of the history of the Warriors,” Shave said. “We do have a few jerseys from the mid-80s, from around the time the Warriors first moved to Moose Jaw. Those are hard to find these days. Those are jerseys where you probably won’t see them go up for sale, but we’re going to set them aside, and hopefully we’re going to come up with a way to display these for all the fans to see.”

The jerseys from the early and mid-90s to recent seasons are online right now here. Because they are selling quickly, the list on the crushedcancom website is updated frequently.

In recent seasons, players, families and billets get the first chance to buy at least one of the jerseys. Depending on the player, it may be held for the next season to be raffled off during games, or silent auctions, or other fundraisers.

“Most of the players take their jerseys, so the opportunity to grab a player’s jersey, basically it comes down to a lot of luck, being at a game, winning it at a raffle or one of the silent auctions,” Shave said. “Here’s an opportunity for fans that maybe is equal for all and is a little bit easier. All the jerseys will be going up on the store for a set price, and if somebody sees it and they want it, they can buy it right away.”
