Two local Moose Jaw Minor Hockey teams came away with wins during their weekend of action here in the Friendly City.

Midget AA Warriors Win Again

Dylan Jones and Nick Wrubelski had four points each as the Midget AA Warriors skated to a 7-6 win over the Regina Vics in South Saskatchewan Minor Hockey League action at the Barkman Arena on Sunday.

Jones scored his first of three goals on the day in the first period, but Moose Jaw trailed 2-1 after the opening frame.

It was four straight goals in the second period that were the difference for the Warriors as it gave them a 5-4 lead after two.

Will Jordan scored 27 seconds into the second period to make it 3-1 for Regina, but Moose Jaw responded three minutes later with Austin Miller scoring to make it 3-2. Dawson Kurz tied the game with his third of the year five minutes later.

The score remained tied until the 5:38 mark of the second when Jones scored to give Moose Jaw the lead. He put Moose Jaw in front by two with another goal just 1:02 later.

Rhett Gherasim pulled Regina back within one with 2:35 to go in the second.

Regina would carry that momentum over into the third period as Randen Schmidt and Chase Nameth scored 1:08 apart with back-to-back power play goals to put the Vics in front 6-5.

Peyton Fisher evened the score just before the midway point of the frame and Wrubelski scored the game winner with 4:01 to go.

Regina was 5-for-11 on the power play in the loss, while Moose Jaw went 1-for-7.

The Warriors scored seven goals on 22 shots. Brodie Jarton stopped 25 shots for the win.

Moose Jaw now sits in fourth place with a 3-1-0 record. They're back in action on Sunday when they host the Regina Rangers at the Bert Hunt Arena.

Bantam AA Earn First Win

The Bantam AA Warriors found their way into the win column on Saturday afternoon as they skated past the Melville Millionaires 5-1 in Saskatchewan Bantam AA Hockey League action.

Nolan Jones had a goal and three points in the win for the Warriors, while goalie Bryan Thomson turned away 23 shots.

Moose Jaw scored early and often with three goals in the first period.

Tyler Lorenz opened the scoring 1:26 into the game and Ben Wourms-Rowe and Logan Hauser also scored in the opening frame for the Warriors.

Jeron Kletzel added to Moose Jaw's lead with a power play goal just over three minutes into the second period.

Jones scored into an empty net late in the third to seal the win for Moose Jaw.

The Warriors threw 46 shots on the Melville net in the win.

Moose Jaw will return to action coming up this weekend when they host the Estevan Bruins on Saturday and travel to Prince Albert on Sunday.

Winless Weekend for Peewee AAs

The Peewee AA Warriors played two close games against the Weyburn Wings over the weekend, but couldn't find a way to come away with a win in either.

The Warriors lost 3-2 on home ice on Saturday and then battled to a 2-2 tie against the Wings in Weyburn on Sunday.

Nolan Pankratz scored 22 seconds into the game for Weyburn on Saturday and then added another goal 47 seconds into the second to lead the Wings to the win. Kirk Mullen and Atley Calvert scored in the loss for Moose Jaw.

On Sunday, it was the Warriors that had the quick start with Mikkel Hrechka scoring early in the first and Evan Osberg making it 2-0 early in the second period, but Rylan Erb scored a pair of goals in the second and third to salvage the tie for Weyburn.

The Warriors now sit at 1-1-2 on the year. They will be back in action on Friday when they head into Regina to face the Regina Blues at 8:00pm.
