The Western Hockey League has once again postponed the start of the regular season.

Due to public health restrictions, the league will not be able to get games started on Jan. 8, 2021 as they had said a few weeks ago.

The WHL said they have developed a set of protocols that were in consultation with the health authorities to protect players, staff, officials and fans during the pandemic. WHL Commissioner Ron Robison said in a media release that given the public health restrictions that are currently in effect, the league is not in a position to determine a new target date for their season.

"We will continue to consult with health authorities to determine when it is safe and responsible to get our season started," he said in the release Tuesday.
