The Calgary Hitmen and Medicine Hat Tigers have suspended all team activities due to a COVID-19 positive test, the WHL announced on Friday.

The league says the positive test came from a player within the Hitmen’s team cohort.

The Medicine Hat Tigers have been deemed a close contact because they played the Hitmen on Monday, and as a result, the Tigers have suspended team activities as well.

According to the WHL, there have been no positive test results from the Medicine Hat Tigers and the league is continuing to work with Alberta Health regarding the situation.

Due to the situation, all of the Hitmen and Tigers games this weekend have been postponed.

There were also two positive COVID-19 cases in the B.C. Division, one with the Kelowna Rockets and one with the Vancouver Giants.

The Rockets player was in close contact with seven cases of COVID-19 on the team on March 31 and has since been put into isolation. All other players on the team have since tested negative. Since the players have been in isolation the latest positive test will have no effect on team activities.

The Vancouver Giants player was being placed in mandatory quarantine before joining the team and was not in close contact with any other member of the team.
