If you're planning to clear out your yard before colder temperatures set in, the City of Moose Jaw could be interested in taking some of your plants and shrubs off your hands.

The Recycle Your Greenery Program, put on by the city, is a way to find new homes for plants and trees that may be otherwise thrown out. They put the recycled plants in an open and public area for other residents to enjoy.

"It's a way for people to donate plants that they don't want anymore," explained Parks Gardener with the city, Sarah Regent. "Whether it's a shrub or potted perennial or something that they had on their deck or something that they planted in their yard and has out grown its space. We will take a look at it and if we can use it, it will go to a public green space somewhere where we think it will fit."

Regent specified perennials, as these plants take quite a bit of work and time to develop.

"It takes a lot of effort to grow a perennial, they take many years to reach flowering size, so it seems a really shame to just throw them out. If they've just outgrown their spot or you've had a change in landscape design, we really want to be able to see them get reused."

She added that they actively look for plants that can be divided or small trees.

The City of Moose Jaw has been hosting this program for five years and it's held in the spring and fall seasons, as Regent believes it's the best time to move plants.
