As Moose Jaw City Council prepares to re-evaluate their proposed ban on honey bees, Winnipeg has passed a motion to allow beekeeping, in principal.

Moose Jaw's bylaw was part of an overhaul of the list of animals allowed in the city limits and was partially sparked by a debate over backyard chickens.  Bees were eventually added to the list but a plea from a local resident resulted in council agreeing to reconsider the honey bee ban.

The Winnipeg motion will allow bee keeping by permit only, provided the yard meets certain criteria, but still needs final approval from council.
