Not long ago city council approved the creation of the Moose Jaw Municipal Airport Authority.

Currently, applications are still being accepted for one of the open seats, however, time is running out.

Maryse Carmichael, Greg Simpson, Jarred Johnson were the three who made up the driving force to get this plan up and running just over two years ago and couldn't have been more pleased when their hard work paid off and it was created.

"I think the most important objective of the board and the most important benefit of having a board is that it will be people that will have a strategic view in mind that will think of growth for the airport," explained Carmichael. "They will know of different opportunities and endeavors that we could have at the airport."

Nomination papers are open to anyone who is interested in applying, and Carmichael noted those who have been in a similar position or have a history in business would be a good asset.

"The city of Moose Jaw will decide who is on the board. I think first and foremost they would look for experience, experience both as a member of a board and experience in the administrative side of a board, of businesses or various industries."

She added that in the areas of flying, planes, and pilots they are forever progressing and making strides, but is unhappy that we haven't seen those kinds of advancements locally which is another reason why they made a push to have this board created.

"We see that around the world aviation is growing at about 4%. When you look at our little municipal airport it hasn't grown very much, it hasn't grown at all in the last 20 to 25 years. In someway as a person who has been involved in aviation for most of my career, I find it's a little bit sad that we're not taking advantage."
