The strain of this pandemic is hitting our youth just as much as the rest of us and many don't have enough positive role models to help shape their lives.

More now than ever, kids need someone willing to come alongside them and struggle with them through these tough times.

Big Brothers Big Sisters Moose Jaw has been working tirelessly throughout the pandemic to match kids with mentors.

Regional Manager Amy Noureldin explains some of the ways that they've had to adapt.

"We've been expanding the ways in which we support our mentees and make sure that they are doing ok. We encourage our matches to meet virtually if that makes them more comfortable and to always wear masks."

However, she says that this has also brought out a silver lining.

"There are certainly positives from this, even though we all wish we were out of it. We're now able to serve mentees that are a little bit farther away from the city centre. A mentor perhaps from Regina can meet with a mentee in Moose Jaw: that's doable now because of how far we've come in the virtual world."

There's always a bit of a waitlist of mentees waiting to find a mentor says Noureldin. She encouraged anyone who is thinking of becoming a mentor to reach out to them with any questions.

"The impact that mentors make is astounding. Children who are mentored grow up to give back themselves at a higher rate than those who weren't mentored. They donate their time and money more often than those who weren't mentored. So it's just a beautiful cycle of giving back."
