Buffalo Pound is among several provincial parks in Saskatchewan to enact a fire ban.

The Ministry of Parks, Culture and Sport issued the ban Friday afternoon, saying open fires are prohibited in Buffalo Pound, Cypress Hills, Danielson, Douglas and Saskatchewan Landing provincial parks and surrounding recreation sites until further notice.

In a media release, they said that "self-contained portable gas heating devices and fire pits, barbecues, pressurized stoves, and charcoal briquettes will be permitted for cooking and heating purposes at park discretion for the duration of the ban."

The ban comes amid a heat wave, combined with a lack of moisture for much of southern Saskatchewan. The drought-like conditions have prompted several rural municipalities, plus the City of Moose Jaw, to enact fire bans of their own.

The R.M.s that have enacted fire bans are:

- Lake of the Rivers

- Stonehenge

- Morse

- Wheatlands

- Hillsborough
