It's only Wednesday but you can bet campers are getting set for the May Long Weekend.

Staff at Buffalo Pound certainly are as Park Manager Dave Bjarnason says his crew have been busy preparing for the official park opening Thursday and the unofficial kick off to summer fun.

"Our entry gates will open at 1 o'clock and all of the campgrounds will be accessible at that time. We're expecting a busy weekend with everyone bringing out their equipment and they're anxious to get back into camping."

Bjarnason says things are dry at the park, just like everywhere else in the province so they have concerns in advance of the weekend. Buffalo Pound falls under the fire ban that was issued on Tuesday for all Crown land, provincial parks and recreation areas south of the Churchill River.

There's also the alcohol ban that comes with the long weekend in provincial parks.
