Better late than never, as the saying goes. With a number of resident confused about where to put their garbage this week, the City of Moose Jaw released a statement Wednesday afternoon about their delayed rollout to curbside collection.

Area 3 was supposed to change Wednesday morning from back lane to street collection with Area 4 making the change on Thursday and area Area 5 in October but that won't happen due to a council motion last month, redefining problem areas of the city.  City administration says they need more time to study what it means so the rest of the rollout has been halted until further notice.

Councillor Chris Warren made the retroactive motion On August 14th that sent city administration back to the drawing board.

"Effective August 1st, 2017, that challenged areas identified by city engineering for continued alley pick up service be expanded to include the following criteria; blocks where more than 20% of homes do not have front street driveways, blocks where there is an excess of on street parking, blocks where the road widths are defined as narrow streets, blocks where on street parking lanes do not exist and blocks where more than 20% of the homes contain retaining walls and are more than one step from the yard to the curb."

The statement from the city explained Zones 1 and 2 will continue with curbside collection and the planned move to bi-weekly collection will go ahead for all areas October 1st.
