After decades of serving the community of Moose Jaw as both Mayor and Councillor, Don Mitchell will be stepping down as an elected official.

The agenda for Monday's City Council meeting that was released today includes a section that mentions his resignation. Mitchell stated personal family reasons for his resignation.

"It's become clear to me that I can no longer commit the time and energy needed to fulfill the many obligations of an elected municipal official."

"The mid-term timing of this decision will allow for another person to come forward in a by-election in the fall at a date set by Council under the provisions of the Cities Act."

We'll have more on this story as it becomes available.
