We've learned a few more details surrounding water main issues near Moose Jaw's Crescent Park.

Following a water main break at 3rd Avenue NE and Athabasca St. January 6th, city crews have been attempting to fix the problem.

However, it's turned out not to be a typical repair job according to Public Works Supervisor Jesse Watamanuk.

"We did have to isolate a lot of valves," Watamanuk said. "There was about 20-some valves we had to isolate and get control of. These are very old valves, they don't work that easily..up and down trying to get control. A regular block we deal with four valves, or two valves, so this is a little more complex."

"Because it's a high pressure line, (water) is coming out of there at about 80psi (pound-force per square inch)," Watamanuk continued. "It's taken about two weeks to get control of it."

The southern most half of that water main is actually the east feeder line that was just replaced. Where the break occurred is the next phase of the feeder line that needs to be replaced.

Watamanuk adds the lack of a quick solution wasn't for a lack of effort.

"The guys have been out there..on the weekend..we haven't really stopped, we're continuing on with it."

Watamanuk believes they should have the problem fixed by end of the day Friday.
