The Saskatchewan Air Show and the city of Moose Jaw have entered into a partnership for the 2019 event.

The city was asked for over $40,000 in support and in-kind donations for the event this year, to include things like policing and firefighting costs, as well as buses, snow fencing and traffic cones.

Executive director for the air show Col. Dennis O'Reilly, asked council Monday, and Mayor Fraser Tolmie said the city is glad to have the air show back in Moose Jaw.

“We’re very grateful to have a strong working relationship with 15 Wing,” said Tolmie. “And I think one of the things that needs to be noticed is that the Wing Commander is actually born and raised in Moose Jaw. He’s a Moose Javian done good, and he’s returning to his stomping grounds, and we’re very grateful.”

Swanson and other counsellors were hoping to have heard from the air show people before their budget process was done.

“Having said that, I’ll cut to the quick here and I would move that $20,000 from the city’s contingency fund be allocated to the Saskatchewan 2019 Air Show and that the city provide, from the transit budget, three city buses for the two days.”

O’Reilly said ticket sales have already hit 8,000 for the event, which is scheduled to take place July 6-7 at 15 Wing.

“Sales span across Ireland, the Virgin Islands and all across North America, so we’re putting Moose Jaw on the map as we speak for this event that we plan to do every other year. We’re tremendously proud of what we’ve done, and support has been unanimous from the local community,” O’Reilly said.
