Even city facilities are closed to the public due to the COVID-19 pandemic, City Manager Jim Puffalt said there are still emergency and essential services working in the community.

The essential services decided wsa decided by the emergency measures team to decide what was needed during a very dynamic situation.

“Certainly in the first days things were changing rapidly, every day there was something new and sometimes two-three times a day things were changing so we were meeting really quickly,” Puffalt said.

Emergency services include the fire department, which is run by the city, and the Moose Jaw Police Service run by the Board of Police Commissioners.

Other essential services include the following:

  • Water and Wastewater
  • City Council and Executive Committee
  • Waste Management
  • Transit and Paratransit
  • Building maintenance
  • Cemetery
  • Road Construction and Maintenance
  • Fleet Repair and Maintenance

Puffalt said they want to keep busy moving as smoothly as possible during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We kept planning in place, we kept the building inspector on help with the construction that is ongoing and economic development will be absolutely key and our economic development team has been working closely with the community to find ways to move us forward as we start looking at post-recovery,” Puffalt said.
