The conversation has been going on in the halls of Moose Jaw City Hall for years and council has been warned of the impending need to shut down the landfill in nearly every budget for the last decade. Now, officials are asking residents to weigh in on what should happen next with our solid waste utility.

The current city landfill only has another five years left of operation, so a Solid Waste Management Master Plan is needed to deal with how our city would like to dispose of garbage, recycling, and even compost according to Communications Manager Craig Hemingway.

"The landfill is certainly a huge part of this for sure but it goes even beyond that," explained Hemingway. "This is really a plan to navigate and find a pathway for those things."

A survey goes live on the city's website on November 19th to gain feedback and suggestions from residents with an open house being planned for November 22nd at Mosaic Place.

It was in January of this year that councillors learned that there were numerous problems at the local landfill including a liquid landfill waste was leaking from the dump. Councillors also learned that the utility was falling short of provincial regulations for covering trash.
