If you've ever wanted to learn how to cut a jib or reel a yardarm, you should consider attending the 99 Assiniboine Royal Canadian Sea Cadets open house this Monday.

The local Sea Cadets branch is welcoming all families to come out to their first meeting on September 9th at 6:30pm in the Lieutenant Colonel D.V. Currie VC Armoury.

You can meet the other cadets and officers and learn more about the club's programs that go on throughout the year.

Acting Sub Lieutenant Bruce Boczkowski, the Unit's Public Affairs Officer, says you'll even get to see the Cadets in action.

"If they're there early enough they will be able to see our colours, thats what we do first thing when we hold our meetings. What colours is, is where we raise our flag and if we were on a ship that would represent what we do first thing in the morning."

Acting Sub Lieutent Boczkowski aslo explained what you can expect from the evening.

"Just be able to meet the other cadets and talk to them, the parents can talk to the officers and see what we have to offer the kids and see what we do throughout the year."

There is no cost to join to the sea cadets program since it is funded by the Department of National Defense, however, there is a cost to join the Navy league, $150, it is not funded by any outside programs, but you can look to Jumpstart to get you going, they ask parents and cadets to volunteer for their fundraising events to help cover some of their activities througout the year.
