The COVID-19 outbreak can be a lonely time for seniors that are living in an assisted-living centre or care homes, away from their families.

However, the Moose Jaw Age-Friendly Committee has started a letter-writing campaign, to allow members of the public to write letters to these seniors.

Committee member Christine Boyczuk says so far the response from the assisted living centres and care homes has been positive.

“Anyone that I have contacted about writing letters seemed really, really interested in doing so. So it’s a way to help the community and help those who have been separated from their loved ones,” she said.

The letters will be compiled through email, and written letters and pictures can be scanned and attached. The committee plans to send the letters to the facilities on a weekly basis that they can print off and post as they see fit.

Boyczuk gave a few topic ideas.

“They can talk about anything they want, their families, trips they’ve been on, things they enjoy doing, books that they’ve read. Really anything of interest or might be of interest to a senior,” she said.

Anyone interested in writing a letter or would like more information can email keepingmjseniorsconnected@gmail.com.
