Producers impacted by those devastating wildfires this year are getting some more help from the province. The Provincial Disaster Assistance Program has announced it will provide financial assistance to qualifying producers to help cover feed costs until their normal winter feeding program would kick in.

Government Relations Minister Larry Doke says typically PDAP does not provide assistance for wildfire losses, because most fire losses are insurable. However since tame and native grazing lands are not insurable the province will help to fill the gap giving producers additional peace of mind, and helping to ensure that operations affected by wildfires can recover sooner.

Producers that have suffered wildfire damages to “tame and native lands” intended for grazing can now apply for assistance in providing feed to affected livestock. A claimant must meet all the program’s eligibility criteria that can be found here.
