At 7:15 am this morning, the chlorine alarms started blaring at the Kinsmen Sportsplex.

Everyone in the swimming area was evacuated, and no one was in the arena area of the building.

All staff and swimmers made it out of the building safely. The Fire Department arrived on-site shortly after.

The building was determined safe to re-enter at approximately 8:05 am and the pool re-opened for 9:00 am programming.

It was confirmed by staff at the Kinsmen Sportplex that the alarm has a very sensitive sensor to chlorine gas. There was a little bit of gas in the air that made the alarm go off, but the Fire Department ensured that there is no escaping gas and no risk to the employees or swimmers.

The Kinsmen Sportsplex, along with the Fire Department will be monitoring the alarm for the next 48 hours.
