The Eyebrow community received their cheque this morning (September 22nd) after winning CHAB’s Great Eight contest.

The $5000 prize, sponsored by Hawk’s Agro, was presented by the company's location manager, Ted Moir. The Volunteer Fire Department’s Fire Chief Ben Thiessen happily accepted the donation to help pay for their community's Fire Hall.

“I’m very impressed by the community support in this town. I felt when we were looking at the numbers and the people that spend time on their phones voting and voting and voting,” said Corey Doerksen, another volunteer firefighter was in attendance. “It just totally blew me away at how many votes we got. The community support in this area is just phenomenal.”

Doerksen also added that families had relatives living in different parts of the country, and even in California, voting for the community to win.

The prize helps pay for their Fire Hall, which after all the costs, had a price tag around $220,000.

“Fundraising has been [going] the last couple years. It hasn’t been a long time, we got going and things just progressed and went really fast. We got really good support from the start,” added Doerksen. An exact total hasn't been given yet, but he knows they're close.

Completion has been estimated to be in October of this year, then the Fire Department and all their equipment should be able to move into the new building.
