With dry conditions and strong wind continuing into the month of September, the Moose Jaw Fire Department would like to remind us to be safe.

"If you are having an open fire or something, (including) people out in the rural areas, they need to have a means to extinguish that fire and have it readily available," explained Moose Jaw Fire Chief Rod Montgomery.  "We don't currently have a fire ban in the city of Moose Jaw and we'll just continue to monitor it."

Despite our city not having a ban in place, other areas have extended or reinstated theirs recently.

"Conditions have certainly dried up again.... I would really put an advisory out there for people that we're continuing to see dry, warm weather and starting to see some stronger wind."

He also advises residents to be aware how close fire pits and barbecues are to their house as that could create a fire as well.

"It depends on the exterior of the building that you are up against. The rule of thumb is 3 metres away, that radiant heat is less likely to cause any type of problems for you."

Montgomery added that siding made out vinyl has caused issues for residents in the past, if they have something giving off heat to close to their home.
