Gas prices in southwest Saskatchewan are holding steady- but that may soon change, according to Dan McTauge, Senior Petroleum Analyst with GasBuddy.

McTauge says a number of factors go into what sets gas prices, and gives advice for motorists on when they should fill up.

"I think you're going to look at gas prices move up a bit," he said. "It's around a dollar three right now in southern Saskatchewan... in some places a dollar five, dollar one, so we're sort of bouncing around in that area. Motorists are always better to fill up later in the evenings or weekends. Always good to download the Saskatchewan-made Gas Buddy app, it gives people a good idea of when prices are moving up or down."

McTauge says labour disruptions later in the year could also make a difference in prices.

"I think we're looking at prices as good as they're going to get for us here," he said. "We're paying about 13 cents, 15 cents a litre more than we were last year, and I think that's probably going to remain for the balance of 2017. We could see situations especially south of the border... we could also see potential disruptions here in Canada. The coop refinery in Regina continues to go through a potential labour disruption there.

That won't directly impact it, but it could push it up five or ten cents per litre as we move into the summer with warmer weather."
