The Government of Saskatchewan announced Tuesday that they will be launching a four-phase initiative to enhance access to reliable cellular and high speed internet services.

Developed in consultation with Sasktel, the program will ensure rural communities have the communication tools they need to attract and retain residents, meet the needs of local businesses, and encourage greater investment in their community.

The four phase plan starts with Sasktel making a 4.2 million dollar investment to expand its high speed fusion internet network.

Phase 1 will see six new High Speed Fusion equipped towers go up.

Phase two involves the deployment of a small cell site that will provide improved cell service in 100 communities.

Phase three will see Sasktel enhancing cooperation with independent providers, and phase four will see Sasktel identify and improve coverage gaps in rural Saskatchewan.

Outlook, Pense and Bethune are all included in the plan to receive one of the new High Speed Fusion equipped towers by spring 2018.
