A shortage of rail cars and crews have left a number of shipments of grain and oil stranded across the Canadian Prairies.

There have been reports of thousands of orders for cars being cancelled by CN and CP Railway, and of railways prioritizing other businesses before grain, due to grain having no other source of transportation, other than rail.

Bill C-49, the Transportation Modernization Act, is now in the hands of the Senate.

Which, if passed, will impose penalties on railways that leave grain waiting months to be shipped to elevators.
