A community southwest of Moose Jaw is heading to the polls on Wednesday to elect a new leader for their city.

The former Mayor for Gravelbourg, Dan Lamarre, unfortunately had to step down from his position due to health issues.

There are two candidates in the race  - Travis Rushinko and Robert Bowler.

Rushinko is an EMT with their local ambulance and Bowler is the owner of a construction business. Both have recent experience from sitting on town council.

Jackie Berg is a current Councilor and Acting Mayor for Gravelbourg and noted that it's been challenging to move initiatives forward without someone in the Mayor's seat.

"It's quite hard because you are one person less, so it's kind of hard to get everything done that you would like to because it stops everything," explained Berg. "We've been stopped a few different times now and it's a process. Currently there are five, but there should be six Councilors and a Mayor."

"We're a town of around 1,100 people, it's hard to say how many will show up to vote, but we hope we will have a good turnout. With last week's vote and this week's vote... it'd be nice to have that be a good portion of people who live in town."

Berg noted that anyone in the community who will be filling out a ballot will need to bring along some information.

"Picture Identification, as it's mandatory by government. Also a bill of some sort either a water or power bill that states your physical address, that's new and it has become mandatory and they want us to push that along to people who want to vote. Please bring something with your physical address, as licenses don't always have it, some of them just have a box number."

The polls will be open for residents from 9 am to 8 pm at the Gravelbourg Lions Hall, and the elected Mayor is set to be announced Thursday.
