Monday was the first day of Spring and green thumbs are already getting planting and preparations ready for summer.

Leslie Cornell, from Cornell Design and Landscaping, detailed what they're doing out at the local green house.

"We are really busy, right now we're planting our annuals, then we'll be planting perennials, then we plant roses," explained Cornell. "All those things will be in

Leslie Cornell from Cornell Design and Landscaping, located just South of Moose Jaw on Highway 2. full flush by probably the 1st of May and ready for people to take home by the middle of April."

She said sunny days like the first day of Spring was a perfect time to start working on your soil.

"Right now, in the Spring what people need to do in their own yards is they need to start getting the soil ready in your garden. You could amend the soil with compost, you could apply manure and that gets the soil ready for your plants to use it."

She also noted how they're getting set for summer when it comes to fruit trees.

"We're doing a lot of fruit tree pruning for our customers right now too and that's why you can see the structure. You can take 1/3 of the tree maximum and get them ready for making larger fruit. If you're having trouble with small fruit... it definitely needs pruning."

Spring rolled in officially at 4:20am on Monday morning.
