Among the businesses that have closed their doors, hairdressers are not available, leaving many people scrambling to get a cut.

Shanda Prentice of Infinity Hair Studio says there are a few things people can do at home, but should be careful because mistakes can be difficult to fix.

"If you want to clean up your neck line or around your ears you're probably fairly safe to do that, or if your a lady and you want to cut your bangs your probably going to be okay. I would not recommend trying to give yourself a fade or use any kind of clippers, I think you would have a big mess."

Prentice added advice about dying your hair.

"If your trying to match exactly what your hairdresser does, there are a lot of times where we don't just put one colour on it, we mix a few colours together to get you exactly what we need for you. So there is a chance that you could make a mess and that will be a very expensive fix."

Ultimately, Prentice advises against dying your hair at home to avoid mistakes.
