In light of the news this week that three children have died as a result of complications from the flu, health officials are stressing the importance of recognizing the signs of a serious situation and getting immunized.

A total of six lives have been lost due to the flu since cases started popping up back in September with just under 2000 lab-confirmed cases so far according to Chief Medical Officer, Dr Saqib Shahab.

"We have seen 14 overall ICU admissions and out of it, six have been in preschoolers and we have seen six deaths so far and three have been in preschoolers," explained Shahab. "H1N1 is in all age groups and especially in people under the age of five, it can result in a more serious outcome."

Preschoolers can be most at risk with the flu and officials say if they seem unable to eat or drink, have rapid breathing and don't want to be touched, then they should be taken for urgent care even if they don't have a fever.
