At least during the winter, the ruts and holes, washboards and dips were filled with ice and snow, making the area passable but now that spring has arrived, High Street West in Moose Jaw has become a major headache for drivers and city administration.

The issue stems from a contractor working on cast iron replacement last year. In November, we brought you the story about a possible legal battle over responsibilities and contractual issues. The issue came up at Monday's council meeting as elected officials asked for an update from City Engineer Josh Mickleborough.

"It's still too cool, generally speaking, for asphalt and of course, the asphalt plant isn't up and running yet." explained Mickleborough. "That situation is further complicated by ongoing discussions with the contractor and lawyers about the performance of the contract last year."

In a story we brought you last fall, then City Manager Matt Noble said the contractor missed several benchmarks including the amount of time it would take to complete the project and fixing the street after the work was done.  Officials have declined to comment any further about possible legal action that's being taken but Mickleborough says the completion date is still a major sticking point with the contractor.

"We don't have a firm date for when that will be repaved but we continue to work and make efforts to have it maintained and we make efforts that will ensure that it is paved in a timely fashion." added Mickleborough when asked if there was a plan for when repaving will happen.
