That massive fire on the west edge of Moose Jaw has been now ruled as accidental.  Firefighters were called around 1am Saturday to the 2600 block of River Street West and were on scene for over nine hours.

Crews immediately started to attack the blaze but there wasn't much they could do according to Fire Chief Rod Montgomery.

"They weren't able to secure a water line as the water source was a couple thousand feet away and so they did the best they could with what they had and then at that point, they went defensive."

Due to the restrictions of the area, they tried to keep the fire from spreading any further as conditions are still very dry and there was a row of recreational vehicles on the other side off a tree line.

Moose Jaw Police estimated the damage at $500,000.  Montgomery believes the most likely cause was an unattended fireplace.
