The Holy Trinity Catholic School Division has named an interim Director of Education/CEO for the remainder of the school year.

The division that encompasses nine schools, including the seven HTCSD schools in Moose Jaw, made the announcement earlier this week.

Darrell Zaba shifted into the role on January 2 for a six-month period, taking over for Geri Hall after she retired at the end of 2017.

"I retired from Christ the Teacher Catholic School Division (in the Yorkton and Melleville area) in the summer of 2015," he said. "I then moved to Regina and with it being a close proximity to Moose Jaw, the board asked if I would consider filling in for Geri. My last five years with Christ the Teacher I served as the Director of Education."

Prior to being the Director of Education, Zaba served as the Assistant Director of Education for 14 years and has spent 35 years in the education sector.

Zaba said that because they do a lot of common work with the Ministry of Education, and because the school division has implemented a policy governance model, it will make his short tenure easier.

"The transition isn't too difficult," he stated. "It's just a matter of getting to know the staff and how they do their work and providing support."

Zaba says he has no intention of applying for the permanent opening that will commence in August 2018.
