The long weekend is here and the roads will be busy with people traveling for the holiday.

Tyler McMurchy, with SGI Media Relations, reiterates the basics of safe driving, "With the long weekend and more traffic on the road, I think it's a good idea for everyone to take care out there. Drive courteously, keep within the speed limits, make sure you're not following to closely behind someone or tailgating, use turn signals when appropriate, and look out for one another."

McMurchy also notes that with the warm weather, drivers are sure to see more motorcycles out on the highways.

April's safety traffic spotlight is focusing on vulnerable road users including the motorcyclists, bicyclists, and pedestrians. "Throughout the month of April, police will be on the lookout for vehicles not yielding to pedestrians, or making unsafe lane changes around motorcycles and bicycles and generally driving without due care around those vulnerable road users."

The Media Relations member urges drivers to be wary of these vulnerable road users and share the road accordingly.

McMurchy says drivers should take care out on the road, "I think we will expect to see busier roads, and hopefully that won't translate into higher rates of collision. Hopefully, everyone out there will realize that even if it means slowing down and taking a couple extra minutes to get where they are going, it's worth it to make sure everyone gets where they are going safely."
