Arron Dobrescu was born and raised in Moose Jaw; however, he moved to Japan 15 years ago to build schools to teach English at, and after continuously expanding over the years, he now has over 900 students at his schools.

Each year, Dobrescu brings students overseas to visit his hometown of Moose Jaw, and this year was no different. Dobrescu and 16 of his Japanese homestay students toured our city and surrounding communities.

Among other activities they participated in, the students learnt how to play floor hockey, went camping at Buffalo Pound, rode the combines at Babich Farms, and even got to experience the thrills of the Regina Ex.

Dobrescu believes visiting a smaller city like ours is more beneficial for the kids than larger places would be.

"You know if you go to Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, bigger cities like Toronto, you don't get that homey feeling. When we walk down the street to Superstore, people stop and say hello. It's just such a friendly city."

Dobrescu says comparing and sharing his childhood with the kids is something that's very important to him.

"The most important thing is if I can share some of my life and how different as a child growing up in Moose Jaw is, compared to what it's like in Yokohama. If I can share any part of our culture, I'd like to share a bit of my past with them."

By the end of their trip, Dobrescu had even recruited a few new Roughrider fans, as the kid's team hats were showing lots of Rider pride.
