If you're leaving home for a summer holiday, dont' make it obvious.

Moose Jaw Police are issuing some basic reminders for us to help avoid having our homes hit by burglars who can tell there's nobody home.

"These occurrences take place throughout the year," said Constable Kent Westrom, "but summer time, obviously there's a little increase in activity."

"Notify neighbours, a family member or friends, and have them check on the house while you're gone," he suggested. "Maybe even have them mow the lawn, pickup the mail and give the perception that the house is being used."

Westrom also said to "lock the parked vehicles outside your home and make sure there are no valuables in the vehicles. And, activate some motion-sensor lights for the duration that you're gone, or even leave a light on inside the house, on a timer."

And, hard as it may be, Westrom stated that you may want to avoid using social media to post holiday pictures and updates, as that would tell everybody else that you are not at home.
