Turning 100 is a special moment that not a lot of us will get to experience. Turning 103...Now that's a whole other story!

Madge Bennett of Moose Jaw, celebrated her 103rd birthday on February 5th at Pioneer Housing with friends and family.

Bennet grew up in Wapella, before moving to Moose Jaw to become a teacher when she was 17. She would go on to teach between 600 and 700 students over the next 30 years, many of whom she says she will run into at Pioneer Housing.

"I figured I taught between 600-700 students in Moose Jaw. We had large enrollments - We didn't have just 25 or so kids in our room; we had 35 or 40. One year I had 45 kids in my class to teach."

We asked Madge if she had any advice she would like to pass on.

"Everybody asks you what you did, why did I get along so well, and I just say I kept busy. I didn't sit around at home and do nothing."

When asked about the biggest change she's seen in her lifetime, she says the answer is simple.

"These phones. I like them, I think they're very good, but I sure wouldn't want to use them myself. The kids these days don't know how to write, and they don't know how to talk (to one another)."

Bennet was a part of many organizations and groups, and she says one of her favourite accomplishments was being awarded with the Saskatchewan Seniors Mechanism Centenarian award in 2015.
