After the city hired Insightrix Research back at the start of the year to conduct a survey on what residents think of curbside garbage pickup, the results are in and they're sure to stoke the fires of the opposition.

The company surveyed 400 residents, half from areas with curbside pickup and half from areas without, asking a series of questions about what they thought of the change. According to the results, 85% of respondents preferred back alley pickup to curbside but when asked to consider the city saving of $152,000 per year with curbside pickup, that number dropped to 51% supporting back lane collection.

"The next step is for city council." said Craig Hemingway, Communications Manager with the City of Moose Jaw. "Council has this information and they will deliberate it as part of the overall presentation from engineering. This survey is one piece of that puzzle and council will contemplate this information and factor it into their decision."

Some of that debate is expected to happen on Monday when council meets for their regular proceedings and the survey is officially presented. Until then, you can read the full report here.

Some of the main concerns residents had about curbside pickup centred around having the cart stay safely secured on the street and not having a convenient storage area in the front yard for their garbage bin.
