One man is facing charges after gunshots were heard from a home on the east side of the city Tuesday afternoon.

Moose Jaw Police were called to the 700 block of Athabasca Street East around 1:45 pm for a report of gunshots being heard in the basement of the home.

They were told that a woman and child were inside, with an active male shooter.

Upon arrival, officers broke into the house and found a man with a loaded rifle. He challenged police, but they were able to arrest the suspect and he surrendered his weapon.

The male is now facing charges and will appear in provincial court Wednesday morning. No one was injured during the incident.

Officers continue to investigate, along with Forensic Services, Criminal Investigations and Social Services.
