With National Mental Health Week around the corner, the Candian Mental Health Association and the Moose Jaw Chamber Of Commerce are offering Mental Health First Aid training in May.

It's a two day workshop for employers and business owners to learn proper methods on handling mental health situations in the work place, as employers are paying large amount of money each year for incidents regarding an employees mental well-being.

"Studies have shown that in 2010 the direct cost for mental health concerns costs employers about 18 billion dollars, that's just one year in Canada," explained Donna Boywer with the Canadian Mental Health Association. "Every week in Canada 500,000 employees miss work because of lack of mental health, it's important for businesses to be prepared to support their employees on the front end, so that there isn't so much cost going in the back end."

Boywer said the goal is to create a healthy work place for everyone.

The training will take place May 11th and 12th at the Royal Canadian Legion, focusing on Mental Health and Mental Illness/Addictions, Mood Disorders including Bi-Polar and Suicide, Anxiety Disorder and Psychosis including Schizophrenia.

There are 3 different price points for the cost to register and you can sign up by calling Heather at the Chamber of Commerce office or by emailing donna.cmha@sasktel.net.
