Back in winter 2016, the Moose Jaw Fire Department added a new truck to their fleet.

During the dry summer, they were able to bring the new truck out and test it out on some fires, and see what it’s made of.

The truck utilizes compressed air foam, which is lighter and easy to transport to most rural fires, and is more versatile. As firefighters can be placed in the back and spray at a blaze while someone drives.

“I think its always a learning curve. There's always a little nuances and something different that you figure out,” said Fire Chief, Rod Montgomery. “So we did have a couple hiccups but I feel fairly comfortable, certainly in the capacity that it can bring. The value that it brings to certain types of fires.”

They had to be very careful when it came out though, as due to the high water table, they made sure to park on higher ground.

“It’s another tool in the tool box so its not gonna fix all your problems but it will certainly help out in the country,” added Montgomery.
