The Moose Jaw Museum and Art Gallery is in a period of change at the moment, with galleries leaving and new pieces coming in.

As demolition comes into view as a possibility for the former YMCA facility, over 70 items from the building have been donated to the Museum as part of their goal for maintaining the history of Moose Jaw. Christy Schweiger, Education Co-ordinator at the Museum and Gallery, explained what has been donated to them.

"We thought it was very important to recognize this history, and so we have acquired 70 plus pieces that have to do with the history of YMYWCA, some of the things we've acquired include a large stained glass piece, we also have a large plaque that gives all the names of the past presidents, we have photographs of some of the sporting teams, photo albums, just to name a few of the items,"

This is similar to one of the current exhibits at the Museum, as there is a display put together of the outfits and equipment of healthcare in Saskatchewan, with donations from the now demolished Moose Jaw Union Hospital.

As for what's going out, Schweiger spoke on the current exhibit, "A Prairie Vernacular".

"It was a monumental task called "A Prairie Vernacular" and it will be travelling across western Canada for the next year to two years, it talks about prairie stories from different viewpoints, from Pioneer perspective, from First Nations perspective, and more contemporary artists sharing their feelings and their perspectives of living on the prairies."

The gallery was put together by MJ Museum and Art Gallery Director and Curator, Jennifer McRorie, who spoke on creating the collection.

"It's a huge show from Moose Jaw, there's almost 200 pieces in this show, and a lot of them are from our collection, and some are from collections across Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, the show features folk art and it's connections to contemporary art, so it presents different narratives of the prairies,"

It will be taken down and boxed up after the end of this week, with what's coming next for Moose Jaw to be unveiled in October.
