Nine different communities across the province are getting their plans in place for a wide spread program at the end of the month that will allow residents to turn in firearms without fear of persecution.

The firearm amnesty program will be held  March 29th through April 27th and Moose Jaw Deputy Police Chief Rick Johns says they're planning on seeing a wide variety of firearms and circumstances around how people got them.

"Any kind of firearms that people might have in their possession, maybe as the result of an estate that they just no longer want or they might not hold a firearms license to hold that gun." explained Johns. "We give them an opportunity to turn it in without any consequences of unlawful possession."

Johns doesn't want anyone to bring their firearms to the police station. They're still planning for the program and full details on how to take part will be released closer to the end of the month.
