As the Council of Federation meeting continues in St. Andrews, N.B., so does the plan between Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe and Ontario Premier Doug Ford to fight a federally-imposed carbon tax.

A joint statement was released today by the two saying they "agreed today to join forces and use every single tool at our disposal to challenge the federal government’s authority to arbitrarily impose a carbon tax on the people of Ontario and Saskatchewan."

Dan Cugnut , Chairman of Valleyview Petroleums out of Weyburn says with the tax, the economies would take a hit;

"Whether thats oil, whether thats agriculture, whether thats manufacturing, its not something that puts us on a level playing field with most of our trading partners."

Cugnut also pointed to Australia who had tried adopting the carbon tax in 2012;

"They had a carbon tax and realized that it was not doing what in concept it was supposed to do, it was just a tax, and thats ultimately what this is, its just a tax".

"The petrochemical industry is basically in every fabric of our every day lives, so its pretty hard to curb consumption".

Saskatchewan hasn't had a carbon tax, and the governing Saskatchewan party has put forth a challenge to the courts.

Ford, whose Progressive Conservative Party recently took over from the Liberals in Ontario, plans to scrap the province's cap-and-trade system.
