Sunday, October 17th marked an annual event that took pumpkin carving to a new level.

The Moose Jaw Barracudas Scuba Club teamed up with the Saskatchewan Underwater Council (SUC) to host an event at Lovering Lake that invited to people come and carve pumpkins while underwater.

"This is the second annual (event) that's been held at Lovering Lake. The pumpkin carving actually wasn't new to SUC but it was something that happened regularly in the past so it's kind of brought back to life. It's the second annual this year and there will number 3 next year," said Brian Lanktree, President of the Barracudas Dive Team.

When asked what the event promoted Lanktree said, "Basically recreational diving. trying to get interested in diving again. Over the years, diving kind of goes, just like any other event, it goes through its peaks and valleys and we're just trying to build up the awareness of scuba diving (and) recreational activities around scuba diving."

Not only was it a fun new way to carve a pumpkin but it was also a lake cleanup.

The Barracudas dive in Lovering Lake every Tuesday and always do a lake cleanup while doing that but the club uses the cleanup initiative to also help people get used to the suits and being underwater if they're participating in any diving event for the first time.

The event offered snacks and drinks as well. The club also put on 3 contests; one for best costume, one for best pumpkin carving, and one for the most unique piece of trash found.

The winners of the contest will be announced later this week on their Facebook page where people can also go to get involved with the club or find out more information about upcoming events.
